The Female Face in Society

I try to keep it real. I don't have time to worry about what I'm projecting to the world. I'm just busy being myself

about me.
In modern Society, wearing makeup in society mainly falls on females and sets standards for how they are “supposed” to look. As a female who wears makeup on a daily basis, I see the box I am put into along with other females. Makeup enthusiasts are judged for “hiding” their appearance and called derogatory names. Women who opt to not wear makeup, these purists are put into a different box and/or told they should wear makeup to be “feminine”. These controversial opinions make some women base their looks on others’ opinions of how they are supposed to look. Others base their appearance on how they want to look and stay true to themselves. Celebrities are mainly seen in the public eye as “perfect”, but if they are seen without makeup on they are called “ugly”. This confusion leaves an impression on younger generations, making some think they are not as “pretty” as the people they see on tv and in magazines leading to self-esteem issues. In order to learn, this web project will explore the history of makeup and examine the effect makeup has on societal perceptions of women.
