Responding to: Inside Amy Schumer - Girl, You Don't Need Makeup
In the beginning of the video the male singers say “You don’t need no lipstick, you don’t need no blush cause you got that inner natural glow.” What girl wouldn’t want to hear that? The males in the video see Amy Schumer with makeup on and tell her she doesn’t need to hide her face behind makeup. They tell her she is beautiful they way she is and to “wipe that goop” off of her face. Once she takes all of the makeup off they change their mind, then follow up by singing “a little foundation and you’ll look female.” This statement overall is saying the only way to look like a female, is if you have makeup on.
Although this video is a parody and is supposed to be a joke some people can connect with Amy. In the parody they tell her that when she is not wearing makeup that she shouldn’t go outside. Also, they tell her to put on “natural looking makeup.” The guys later in the video are playing with her makeup and have almost no idea what they are doing and use a makeup and hair brush as a male genital. Their actions prove that most males have no idea the skill, energy and the amount of money that goes into makeup.
Some females make the decision not to wear makeup and some make the decisions to wear makeup,but that does not make them any less female or “girly”. But, due to societal standards people are judged based on their appearance. This leads to premature judgements on people that you have never met. With that judgement in mind some people can be bias and not give that person an opportunity to show who they are. This happened during interviews and dates; strangers judge you based on what you look like instead what you are capable to do.
The video to me speaks louder than a joke. This is real life and real emotions. I know how it feels to be judged and told how I am supposed to look, in school, by family and by friends. The only one who should care how you look is you. This video makes fun of the standards of beauty, and by doing so it allows others to see how silly it is that we judge females on wearing makeup and not wearing makeup. Why should someone else tell you how you should leave the house?
